The Confederation of Indian Organisations (CIO) was established in 1975. It has given some sense of building cohesion the various South Asian community organisations to provide a collective voice to ensure that their needs of the communities are incorporated within national and local policy. CIO addresses many of the unmet needs through, counseling, health advice, mental well being, community development, environmental issues, regeneration, capacity building, organizational and skills development, training and collective representation at policy level.
Today, with offices in London, Leicester and Manchester (CIO) continues to fulfill the role as an incredible force with a highly articulate voice, operating at social and economic policy level influencing policy and informing leaders and legislation.
CIO’s work is rooted in responding to needs that have been carefully researched. CIO has built a track record in addressing the ICT workforce skills gap, through the provision of practical accredited training in ICT at a range of different levels. CIO in addition provides a range of direct services, advice and consultancy to South Asian Organisations.
At micro level, groups are offered management support and assistance with infrastructure development including Governance, Business Planning and Marketing, Managing resources, ICT, finance, fundraising, empowerment, capacity building and training.
The Organisation brings expertise in its knowledge of the South Asian voluntary sector and South Asian Population in the UK and its network of over 2000 groups with which to work and provide support.
It has established Pan London South Asian Network to provide a forum for the frontline organisations in the South Asian Community and Voluntary Sector to share examples of good practices and identify challenges as well as exploring possible solutions. The initiative is expanding its work to promote the ChangeUP in sector. It offers Organisational and Individual Action Learning sets to the members of the network. A similar initiative is also launched in the North Region.
CIO has a long track record of successful management and delivery of externally funded projects by the Home Office, Community Fund, Department of Health, Office of Deputy Prime Minister, Learning Skills Council, amongst others.
